'It's not mess...it's curiosity'
An advertisement for washing powder, Ireland, January 2005

Grace is the mother of Daniel (born October 2003) and Eleanor (born August 2005). Daniel's first photo is above if you can figure out which fuzzy outline belongs to him. She doesn't claim to be an expert parent but she does enjoy muddling through and recording her dilemmas in case they help or console other travellers on the parenting road.

Her personal essay, 'Blooming', about the dubious joys of pregnancy was published in 'They lied! True Tales of Breastfeeding and Pregnancy' anthology and her lunchbox tips made it onto the RSPCC Web site. Grace conducts survey interviews part time for the ESRI and is involved with the Growing Up In Ireland project with them. She's enjoying meeting hundreds of feisty nine-year-olds and wriggly nine-month-olds during the process.

Words of Wisdom for any Parent

'To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.'

Ralph Waldo Emerson

(1803-1892, father of two, American, philosopher and essayist)
